You would be able to learn all the stuff you need on it. I’ve also heard great things about the traktor kontrol s4.

Plus most club systems use rekordbox compatible systems so using traktor or serato feels like a waste of money to me. I got a traktor s5 which was dumb cause it’s twice as expensive and doesn’t have jog-wheels to properly learn beatmatching.

It’s probably your best bet, wish I’d gotten one. Get a cheap ($3-400) controller with rekordbox compatibility, there’s lots of threads that mention one called the “DDJ-SB2” (?).

I think i've covered enough for a beginner and i'm at work rn so sorry if my grammar is off lol but also feel free to PM me if you have any questions! watch youtube mixes of people playing live and watch their hands. Once you start mixing, record everything! listen to your mixes back and compare to DJs you like and hear what they do. also heavily depends on the genres and your style but in case you ever revisit this post - check these out. you can get nifty with harmonic mixing (mixing songs in a similar key or nearby key) and of course scratching, double dropping, etc. that's really the bulk of it and as you learn those your brain will start clicking and realizing some songs just mix well together. it is possible if you want to learn before you put that knowledge to practice, but again its easier with the gear obviously.īut as many will tell you- the fundamentals are beatmatching, phrase matching, EQing. Honestly you can learn a lot without even having a controller, but you won't be able to practice so i wouldn't recommend that. there's pioneer options like the SB2 but i never owned one so cant really comment but ive read a lot of good things about them.

again, you don't have to go this route and i'd push for a Numark Mixtrack and Serato DJ software (my 2nd controller) if you feel like you'll continue on and don't want to upgrade to something more solid in the future. that's if you wanna spend very little money and find out if you even want to do this. I started out with virtualDJ to get my feet wet and i bought the Hercules Instinct. just go on soundcloud, find some tunes in the genre you're looking for.
